Filipe Chaves holds a PhD (2023) and an MA (2017) in Arts from the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. He has an interdisciplinary background that bridges art and science, with undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences (UFMG, 2013) and Visual Arts (Claretiano College, 2024).

He works as a photographer, documentary filmmaker, researcher, and educator, with extensive experience in audiovisual production. His practice spans multiple stages of filmmaking, including directing, cinematography, editing, sound recording, production, and screenwriting, with a particular focus on documentary photography, non-fiction cinema, image, and memory.

Throughout his career, he has developed and contributed to a wide range of audiovisual and cultural projects, combining artistic sensitivity, theoretical rigor, and technical expertise. His work engages with archives, documentary narratives, and creative processes connected to social and cultural memory.
